Film Street Culture
Our monthly series Doc/Nights presented by Doc'n Roll makes its return to our cinema on Thursday 27th February. This month, we're bringing you a screening of It's Yours - Hip Hop & The Internet followed by a Skype Q&A with film director Marguerite De Bourgoing.
Synopsis:
By the dawn of the 21st century, hip-hop sales had reached an all-time high, but one thing has remained the same. The doors were still locked, and the music industry held the keys. Young artists began to self-market on the internet, ultimately helping to collapse the music industry as we knew it.
It's Yours explores how it became possible to become a rap star through a Twitter account, Youtube or Myspace page. It tells this story thorugh the unique perspectives of numerous artists, producers, record industry insiders and music & cultural critics. Featuring Wiz Khalifa, LiiB, Odd Future, The Internet, Syd, Action Bronson, Currency, Chuck D and Kendrick Lamar amongst others.
The screening will be hosted in our 100-seat cinema space; the event is free with booking required. A very limited number of walk-in tickets will be available on the day, on a first come, first served rule.
